I was wondering if anyone has tried the new Vandoren M14 mouthpiece? I was going to order one and try it out, but wanted to hear some opinions before I did.

I tried out 4 different mouthpieces when I was looking for a new one, with one of them being the M14. I didn't really like the sound of it. It has been a while since I got my new mouthpiece, so I can't remember what it exactly sounded like. I didn't get the M14, I got a M13Lyre.

I was wondering the same thing myself. I think I'm going to try one out next time I go to the local music store. If they have one, I'll let you know what I think. Just remember, everyone is different, and what might work for me, might not work for you.

FYI--John Bruce Yeh of the CSO told me that he uses a M-13 lyre. Havn't seen the M-14 yet, however. Try both and let us know what you think. I am currently trying some Richard Hawkins mps that seem real good--priced about the same as the M-13s, too, with better response and quality of sound than most commercial VanDorens.

While I dearly love my Hawkins, I find that I can't get real volume out of it. I know that Luis Rossi takes his Hawkins and refaces it slightly once again to get more volume.
I just got a settlement check from Volvo for a tire problem - guess I'll have to spend some of that on fiddling with equipment :^)

I got to try the M14 when my friend was trying out new mouthpieces. It seemed a little darker sounding than the M13, which I play... I liked it, but I like my M13 more. I was, however, using her clarinet, and not my own, so that could have been the difference.

i think to get more volume out of a close facing
mouthpiece is to take more mouthpiece into the mouth.
that works for me without sacrificing the sound and
articulation, just need to get used to the new position.

Doesn't work for me! The Hawkins has never been noted for volume.
