Has anyone out there had a problem with the lig. sliding up the mpc while tightening, or while playing? My new lig. does this, my old one didn't. I am having to use double-stick tape
under the lig. at top, and it helps, but troublesome.

Yes, I have seen some of the new chrome-plated [slick surface] ligatures that slide up a plastic [but not a hard rubber] mouthpiece when tightened. Most of the better lig's don't. At times, I use short and thin strips of masking tape inside the back lig strips when repairing student horns, which also helps a too-large lig to fit properly. If adhesive deposits on the mp, it can be removed by rubbing alcohol [isopropanol] usually. Personally I prefer hard rubber mps and Luyben, Bonade and Harrison ligatures [higher quality accessories!] with no problems.

I've seen even pro players use a bit of black electrical tape on the back side of the mouthpiece. It provides enough friction for the lig to hold and the black color makes it invisible from any distance.

I've only had this problem with the Bonade ligatures... some people say to sand the inside of the ligature (except the rails of course)... but it never worked on the ones i tried...

Another choice is Charles Bay ligtures. They have selections of size S,M,and L.Inverted or not-inverted.14K plated or Rodium(only one bottleneck is they are very expensive).
If Rovner ligature is used, good suppliers request Customer what mouthpiece is used for proper fitting.

I've had the same problem with the Bonade ligature and certain reeds. Seems to be related to how slick the top of the reed is. A little sanding to take off the gloss (from the reed base where the ligature grabs the thing) usually fixes this for me. When that doesn't work, I switch to a Rovner.
