 Shrek the musical

Has anyone out there done this. I was given reed 1 and reed 2 books and am now in the process of sifting through and choosing what to play. Instrumentation is flute, piccolo, clarinet, soprano, alto and tenor sax, bass clarinet , baritone sax.
Since I can barely play the flute, I trying to focus on the rest. I do have all the instruments except bari sax. Thoughts?

I am playing in Shrek right now. We have 4 of us playing the two reed books and I was in charge of dividing the parts, so I know the show pretty well. I am not going to lie, there are a few places where the flute is kind of crucial. There is one song in the first act (can't remember which one off the top of my head) that has a chunk of flute with not much else playing. While it is not ideal, I transposed some of the flute that we couldn't cover to play on clarinet. If you can get the flute down, try. But there may be one or two instances where that might not be a bad idea. I think not having a bari won't be horrible, but that depends on what instrumentation the rest of your pit has. We just went through the first act last night, so I don't think you will have too much of a problem there. We are doing the second act tonight, so I am not as sure about that one. Like I said, one song you might have to go for a little flute. There really isn't that much bass clarinet to worry about either. I would focus mainly on the clarinet and alto part. But once again, your director will probably tel you which parts he needs and finds really important and which parts can be omitted. Good luck! Shrek's reeds are packed and I can't image playing both books at once!

I might be playing Reed 1 on this in March if I can negotiate some changes in my work schedule (yes, we schedule that far out; oy hospital life). How much upper-range flute/piccolo is in this book? I know flute/picc will be most of the book being Reed 1. I'm a clarinet primary who can handle flute/picc parts decently as long as we're not in crazy ranges. I can't play Reed 2 as I don't own tenor or bari saxes.

Thanks!
