 Re: Bflat vent

There are some acoustic benefits with a longer bell - the vent keeps the Bflat in tune with a long bell (and also improves the sound - prevents honking)

Try pulling your bell out slightly (about 2mm) do you notice any difference in the way your instrument plays? ... more stable?

I used to have a a Ward+Winterbourn TW3 which (I think) was improved by lengthening the bell like this (OK so the Bflat was a little flatter but how often do you play a bottom Bflat?).
