I have an Imperial that has its serial number commencing with the letter H - I can't see anything online about this.
Has anyone any ideas?

I've seen various models of 1950s B&H clarinets from Edgwares upwards with an N prefix stamped wonky compared to the numbers (usually in the upper 100000 range), but never knew the reason behind it either.

Maybe they were just going through a phase. The letter was definitely stamped on afterwards and by hand.
It's also funny when you see a Buffet clarinet from the late '70s or early '80s which had a top joint transplant done by B&H as they stamped the serial number just below the top tenon and used the same serial number stamps as other B&H instruments.
