Hi Dee,
this is in response to your reply about playing clarinet with my father playing pedal steel guitar......so if i were to get a C clarinet I could play with my father without transposing?

Yes that would be correct. There are C clarinets available but they are not common. You would probably have to order one.

Buffet makes an E-11 in the key of C. You can order one at the Woodwind and Brasswind in Southbend Indiana.

Yes, but when will they be delivered :) ? They've been on back-order for a long, long time. They do have other makes/models in stock though.

The Lyons is more an educational tool. It is Boehm, but with some keys missing, and plays on an e flat mouthpiece. That might suit you, but it is unlikely to compare with a true C clarinet (haven't tried one though).

Jan -

There have been good discussions about the Lyons C clarinet and other models, too. See http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=36104&t=36067 and http://www.sneezy.org/Databases/Logs/2001/04/000327.txt for a general discussion and http://www.sneezy.org/Databases/Logs/2001/01/000887.txt for my detailed notes on the Lyons instrument.

Good luck finding a C clarinet.

Ken Shaw
