Anyone know anything about the Leblanc Symphonie Artiste clarinet?

Does the clarinet actually have a Leblanc logo on it or is it just labeled "Symphonie Artiste"? The "Symphonie" line was gnerally one of Leblanc's top-end clarinets from the 1950's through the 1970's but I have never seen one with "Artiste" stamped on it. Usually they are labeled "Symphonie" followed by a number or Roman numeral.

However, I have seen a few clarinets labeled "Symphonie Artiste" with no manufacturer's logo. These are reportedly stencil clarinets made by Malerne and then sold in the US by Sears. See the post by Steve Sklar in this thread: http://www.woodwindforum.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-4165.html

cande -

Clarinet Perfection http://www.clarinetperfection.com/snclarinet.htm is the best source of Leblanc wisdom. Also good is http://www.dannychesnut.com/Music/Clarinet/Leblanc/LeblancSerialNumbers.htm.

Neither site mentions a Leblanc Symphonie Artiste model, so I think it's safe to say that there hasn't been one. However, Clarinet Perfection mentions an SML model with that name.

Clarinet Perfection also has photos of most Leblanc trademarks, which you can try to match with your clarinet.

Photos of SML clarinets are at https://www.google.com/search?q=sml%20clarinet&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=9NDIT-npG6ji0QH-oaFo&biw=1505&bih=819&sei=AdHIT66eIojn0QHRu6GgAQ.

Malerne photos are at https://www.google.com/search?um=1&hl=en&newwindow=1&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&biw=1505&bih=819&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=malerne+clarinet&oq=malerne+clarinet&aq=f&aqi=g-S1&aql=&gs_l=img.3..0i24.126996.129539.0.130683.6.6.0.0.0.0.69.303.6.6.0...0.0.08kOSgx7NNU.

If what you have is the item called "Vintage French Wood Clarinet SYMPHONIE ARTISTE LeBlanc" on the auction site, it's definitely not a Leblanc.

If the above photos are not enough to let you identify your horn, please put up detailed photos so we can take a crack at it.

Agreed. Incidentally the post I referenced earlier was made by Steve Sklar, the owner/creator of clarinetperfection.com

There is also the LeBlanc Symphonie that Morrie Backun designed. I have one, but never really used it.
