Attachment: Patricola articulated C#:G# mechanism.png (27k)
If anyone here owns a Patricola Eb, I was hoping they could comment on how the articulated C#/G# mechanism is designed. I attached a photo from their website but it's hard to make out the details. Does it use alternating levers and opposing springs on the C#/G# key itself, as is standard on oboes and saxophones?
I once saw an old Eb clarinet by Buffet (in unplayable condition) with the articulated C#/G# mechanism where whenever the right hand ring keys were pressed down it would raise the whole C#/G# touch piece being held down by the pinky (also raising the pinky in the process if the finger was left on the key). This felt uncomfortable to me and the Patricola mechanism looks similar to how I remember the Buffet was. So, I'm mostly wondering if this is a similar design, or perhaps the Buffet was in so poor adjustment that the levers weren't working as they should.

The link isn't working, but from what I remember seeing is the C#/G# pad cup is a cross-mounted key and is only released when the C#/G# touch is pressed.
The RH rings close it with an adjusting screw linkage, so it works in exactly the same manner as an oboe/cor anglais articulated low C# key - your LH pinky definitely won't be forced up when the RH rings are closed.
Here's a link to it: http://www.patricola.com/?s=7&c=4&t=1

I am the proud owner of a Patricola Eefer. Chris P is correct- the G#/C# mechanism is a two spring affair; the pad closes when the right hand ring is depressed, very much like the typical saxophone design in concept. The lever is not forced back up when the right hand rings are depressed. A screw adjustment is provided. Works fine, and is great for doublers like myself.
Go get one!
