This very recording gets a lot of airplay in the UK on ClassicFM.
Complete with "2 salmoe".

My favourite chalumeax recording is the Telemann double concerto with Musica Antiqua- Eric Hoeprich and... ummm... i can't remember the other player sorry. (in a mad rush this morning- but check this out, it really is a fabulous recording... also on the same CD is a great version of the Recorder/Flute double concerto)

It was played before 7pm this very evening:
18:52 Concerto in C major RV.558 (1), by Antonio Vivaldi
Here's the CD info:
Conductor: Fabio Biondi
Ensemble: Europa Galante
Record Label: Virgin
Catalog: 5455272
Now, is this the earliest recorded use of chalumeaux or have any other composers before Vivaldi scored for them?

For a really wonderful chalumeau performance (imho) check out this Fasch concerto, with Christian Leitherer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll8HS2NH2PA
He manages to get an amazing singing quality out of this instrument.

The chalumeau players that appear in VivaldiĀ“s video are Gili Rinot and Carles Riera.
Carles Riera was spanish specialist in performing on the historical clarinet http://www.carlesriera.com/en/biografia/
