I seem to be the recipient of all of the clarinet attic "treasures" in the neighborhood when people decide to clear out and clean out. Most are in all senses of the word junk but just received one - a Selmer Series 10 serial #V5023 that plays (after a little DIY help) very well. Any Selmer people that can help me on date of manufacture and stature in the heirarchy of instruments during that period?

The 10G was a copy of Anthony Gigliotti's R13, as tweaked by Hans Moennig. As told to me by Ralph Morgan, the 10Gs were machine-made, but, as Omar discovered, needed hand work to make them play like Gigliotti's.
Morgan set up a workshop, which did this work on instruments in the serial number range Z6835 through A1200, so Omar's 10G pre-dates that period.

The Series 10 was the model that eventually replaced the Series 9 but had a narrower bore than the Series 9 and 9*, though both Series 9 and Series 10 had a period of overlap when both models were being made concurrently so the Series 9 wasn't the model below the Series 10 - just an older model of the same class. Not sure when the Series 9 was discontinued but I hav an A-series which is probably very late in the day as it does have Series 10 style keywork.
V5023 is from around 1968. The matching pair of V-series Selmers I've got (V23xx) are really quality items.

Thanks all - amazing amount of good information. Perhaps I will get this one tweaked a little further and sell it before the Buffet Mafia learns of my find and comes knocking.

Although I am primarily a fan of older Selmer clarinets, I do have Buffet, Yamaha and Leblanc clarinets in my collection. I got into older Selmers since I first borrowed a K-series A when I was 15, then bought my first set of CTs before I left school (at 15). As for saxes, I would have gone down the SBA or MkVI route, though Yamaha 62 (and 875) saxes were far easier to come by. I even tried Buffet S1 and S3 altos for a while.
The 10 has a much more compact tone compared to the Series 9, the 10S even more so as it has a narrower bore.
I wonder if Selmer will ever make a large bore CT-style clarinet again?

The above info is correct IMHO, Omar, welcome to the wonders of Selmer. I had the pleasure of doing some minor tweaking of a G F's 10G, same period as yours, "It Was A Very Good Year" for cls ! May I suggest the inclusion of my C T in Sel's history, a 1956 P series, my best cl !! Don
