The issue you will have with computer-based effects is latency. Without getting into computer programming issues, basically it takes more time with software-based effects than dedicated effects hardware to get the sound back out. The computer becomes a delay line, and even unprocessed the sound coming back will be a few to many milliseconds later than the original sound. What I would recommend is a Lexicon, TC Electronic or other dedicated multi-effects box which has loop sampling as well as reverb, phasing, pitch shift and other fun stuff. Much better for live sound application.
