So how do you designate a clarinet made in 1928 with 7 rings 17 keys?

17 keys and 7 rings is probably (if it's a Buffet) a pre-R13 clarinet with an articulated G...

There's a problem with Buffet nomenclature.

The model name R-13 was used by Buffet (France) only with the introduction in 1955 of the polycylindrical model designed by Robert Carré. Prior to that time, Buffet did not use model numbers.

However, the Buffet catalog issued in the United States used catalog code numbers, including R-13 (for the "standard" instrument), and higher numbers, such as R-14, for instruments with extra mechanism.
