 My corks are weird

I just started playing on my brothers bassoon and his bassoon is extremely hard to take apart. I’ve put grease on the corks but it’s still very difficult to put together and take apart. Is this something that will go away with frequent use?

Bassoon tenon corks shouldn't be a struggle to fit or undo - especially the narrow one on the bass joint as that can break off as it's really thin.

Have the bass joint tenon corks resized or better still, have them replaced with waxed thread like you see on Fox bassoons as that both adds strength to the tenons and the thread can be removed or added to easily to achieve the desired fit.

The tenor joint is best with a corked tenon but still have it refitted if it's too much of a struggle to fit or take apart.

In any case, take it to a woodwind specialist to have them refitted.
