Today I came across Heckel bassoon #4994 (made in 1911) that a friend of mine has inherited.
This instrument has FRENCH system key-work, in the style of Buffet.
This instrument is for sure NOT a "World System" Heckel bassoon.
Can anyone confirm that any other Heckel bassoons with French system key-work
exist?
With thanks in advance,
Peter

Hello Peter,
I have a Buffet-Crampon bassoon and have played many French instruments. Would you have photos of the Heckel $4994 to share?
Sincerely,

I've only ever seen true French system Heckels in their catalogues (both bassoons and contras) but not in the flesh. Only seen a couple of "World Systems" in the flesh.
Also a photo of a Mollenauer which could be French bore German system, unless it's just a standard German bore with French style bell (as Heckel offered):

Hi Chris,
Thanks for posting the Mollenauer. The "French" type is definitely a German bassoon, just with the outer contour of the French bell.
