Hi,
I'm a sax doubler and picked up a bassoon a few years ago. Here's the information off the horn itself: It's made by "Kohlert & Co. Winnenden." The serial number is 9384. My research tells me it was made in 1953 in Winnenden, Germany. Looks like it's made of maplewood.
Can anyone tell me more about this instrument? What level is it (beginner, intermediate, pro)? Anything else? Thanks.

Kohlerts are pretty firmly rooted in beginner territory, although I suppose with some tweaking and work on the tone holes, a great bocal, and an even better player, it could be a good intermediate horn. They're very solid players, and unless you aspire to the concerto repertoire or an orchestral bassoon position, it should be a perfectly adequate bassoon for all your doubling needs. :-)
