Used Loree Royal

Hi,

This is my first post here. I just came back from Mcfarland Double Reeds in Atlanta. I tried several new and used Lorees, a top of the line yamaha, and a Howarth XL. I loved the Howarth but it was a bit expensive. Surprisingly, I liked a used Loree Royal just as much if not more. I'm wondering if this is a fluke or not, I didn't expect to like the Royal as much even though I played Loree oboes all my life. I didn't like the Yamaha by the way. Perhaps my reeds or playing style are not compatible to the instrument. Anyway, I'm not sure what to do. $6500 USD seems like a lot for a 2003 Royal. I love the sound, but it isn't the prettiest instrument I ever played. There are some minor dings on the keys and it is rather plain looking. It also looks like there may have been attempts to fill in a couple of shallow cracks. Stupid me forgot to ask about this. There is also a used Loree Royal at Gary Armstrong woodwinds in Toronto. Is anyone familiar with this shop? It's much closer to home so I may check it out. They also sell the Buffet Greenline oboe which seems to be getting many good reviews. I'm wondering if I would be better off waiting for the IDRS conference to try more oboes. It is somewhat close to home this year. Problem is, there is no guarantee that the Royal I'm trying now will not be sold. It's on consignment so maybe I can get it for a lower price. Does anyone know what might be a reasonable price to offer? I can get a less expensive oboe at Gary Armstrong in Toronto because the Canadian Dollar is worth less than US Dollars.
