A few days ago on the clarinet B board, we were discussing on the quality and reliability of various brands of clarinets. I was asking if the quality of selmers were dropping, WOW, was that a popular topic.....
Well i'm here to ask just about the same question. By far most oboes are much much MORE expensive than clarinets, which makes choosing and buying a lot more difficult. Besides the budget, what aspects should we look at when buying an oboe? Are there any manufacturers that sell oboe bells individually? Buffet, Yamaha, Fox, Rigoutat, F. Loree, Marigaux, A. Laubin.......on your opinion which brands or models offer the best quality for an optimum price? Say, a model acceptable for further studies for at least even long life playing, THAT of course means something above the intermedeiate model.
Again i must ask what are the features of a good oboe which must not be left unchecked? For example is the 3rd octave key that necessary? How about the other trill keys?
