Hallo friends of the clarinet,
my name is Stephan Philipps and i´m from Germany/Europe.
A few days ago I bought an old clarinet. The coulor was nearly black and it looked realy terrible. After polishing it looks very well because the material is silver.
Who can tell me something about where the clarinet is coming from.
Things I know are:
1. Name of the company/producer (???) is Champion
2. Made in the USA
3. Serial-number AB 5711
4. Man who sold me the clarinet said it was a "New-Orleans"-clarinet
5. A sign: an Eagel-head with wings above 4 note-lines
Thank you for your help
with good regards
Stephan Philipps

If the "eagle's" wings are out-spread, it may be the "turn-of-the-century" trademark of Conn Ltd. of Elkhart IN, who made many insts. The "Shrine to Music" at South Dakota U has much memorabilia about Conn's history, and might be able to help. Luck, Don

Stephan:
I have a Clarinet which is black plastic and has a line-drawing of an eagle with outstretched wings etched on the bell along with the word "Champion." I do not know who built the instrument nor when, but it appears to be a student-grade Clarinet of reasonable sturdiness.
I hope your instrument plays well and you find it enjoyable.
Regards,
John
