Not sure if this ultra-niche topic has been discussed here before, but for those who tried the ultra-rare D clarinets(pitched a semitone below the far more common Eb sopranino) on this Bboard: Do D clarinets generally work with the normal Eb barrels, or do they require a somewhat different taper/a slightly shorter length?
Asking this out of pure curiosity.

Buffet RC Prestige D clarinets use the same length barrels as the regular RC Ebs - 40.5mm and 41.5mm.
The other length Eb barrel used on the RC Prestige and R13/R13 Prestige is 42.2mm - there's no reason that can't be used on a D clarinet.
I assume Selmer D clarinets used the same barrels as their Ebs.

I own an Buffet RC D clarinet and the same model Eb clarinet.
While the barrels of my Eb and D clarinets are the same length, the entrance and exit bore of my D barrel is notably smaller than that of my two Eb barrels (while the entrance bores of the upper joints of the two clarinets are similar). My D clarinet plays better with its own barrel.
I would not necessarily agree that D clarinets are ultra-rare. My current D clarinet is the second one I have owned and there is at least one other clarinetists in Montreal who owns one. When I studied with David Shifrin at Yale, he owned an R13 D clarinet and was so kind as to lend it to me for several performances.

Excuse me for my choice of words here, I was simply referring to the D clarinet's noticeable scarcity compared to most other members of the clarinet family both in terms of of key pitches & sizes(except even rarer ones like the piccolo Ab/G clarinets, A bass, etc.). And it's CRAZY hard to find either a brand-new or 2nd hand D clarinet in most places unless you're in Central Europe(or maybe the UK). I've yet to encounter a D clarinet in person within Australasia(having lived in both Hong Kong & Australia myself for many years).
That said, good to know what the dimensions are on the RC D clarinet, I assume you're referring to the stock barrels of both? Also were you actually referring to the RC Prestige D(which they only make these days) rather than a(now discontinued like its R13 counterpart) standard 'vanilla' RC D?
To end this post on a slightly digressing note: It appears that Montreal is a hub for some uncommon clarinet types. Apart from the 3 D clarinets that you've mentioned there's also a now-discontinued Buffet Bb basset clarinet(courtesy of André Moisan whom I did an online masterclass with a few weeks ago)!

Thanks for the info, though I assume you know that R13 Prestige Eb isn't made anymore? But from what you've said that normal Eb barrels should work on D clarinets as well(can't say for intonation though)
I don't seem to recall Selmer making any D clarinets for at least the last 2 decades, and I haven't come across their vintage models(Centered-Tones, Series 9 bass only, etc.) so can't answered that myself. Plus their current Recital Eb uses different barrel lengths than its Buffet counterparts, not sure about their earlier models though!

No, my D clarinet is a RC (non-prestige).

I remember that basset clarinet sitting in the display cabinet of our local wind shop for ages.
