I'm looking to get a nice used buffet horn. There are several compelling options on ebay but I although they look nice, I have a feeling some of them might have bigger problems that cannot be seen. Are there any websites or stores that "redos" any used professional buffet horns? I cannot buy a new buffet horn and I feel that getting a used one that somebody worked on is a safer option. My price range is anything under $2000. If anyone has any recommendations in that price range, i'd be happy to know. I tried my friend's Ridenour clarinet. I understand the potential of it. Even tuning and the upper and lower register are almost seamless but I'm just not a fan of it. Any feedback would be appreciated!

For $2000, you have many options! Here in Europe, that would buy you a very nice used RC.
Why Buffet, by the way? There are many good brands.

I would like to get a used buffet because of the resell value. Buffet clarinets are all the rage these days and when i want to sell it for a better horn, i'll be getting more money than i would for other brands. Also, most of my classmates teacher are sticklers for buffet horns but are open to other brands as long as they aren't that different from other clarinets. Really found potential in the Ridenour but it was too resistant for my liking.
I know there are plenty of compelling options from companies like yamaha and leblanc and i'll be totally open to them as well. I searched all over my area for used horns. None of them were that exceptional and most of them were student models so I didn't pick any of them up.

I would not hesitate to buy a completely overhauled (with cork and leather pads) Buffet R13 on Ebay as long as the feedback record of the seller is excellent.

To be fair, given the intonation variations on older Buffets (and even newer ones) I would always want to either test before handing over money, or have a "no questions asked" return policy. I am not a fan of online shopping for musical instruments anyway; I'd rather drive two or three hours if needed.

I would never ever buy or recommend a Buffet that I hadn't tested. They are just too inconsistent and for every gem to be found there are some number of real dogs. If a student played on my Ridenour or Yamaha CSVR instruments and liked them I would tell them to go ahead and make a purchase straight away because they are really that consistent.
If they liked my R13 then the hunt would just be beginning.
The Ridenour has more "hold" than a Buffet might, but it shouldn't feel resistant with a well matched mouthpiece.

Try Lisa's Clarinets or Walter Grabner for used clarinets ... might be a little more, but should be instruments in good shape ... they will send you clarinets for trial ... I am sure there are many others that deal with good used, reconditioned instruments ...
I am a fan of the R13 greenline clarinets ... I think the consistency is much better ... not sure about the used market on these ...
Don't buy without a try ...
You can purchase mostly new Yamaha CSVRs, as "store demonstrators" for less than $2500.00 ... from Brasswind-Woodwind
And new Ridenour 576BCs are less than a grand ... a nice horn.

Many sellers on Ebay offer return options. And Ebay (Paypal) gives you buyer protection. Not very much can go wrong there.
