 Tosca Register Key

Does anyone know the measurements of the Tosca register key as compared to one on an R-13 (R-13 model 2002)?

Thanks,
Bb

On Wednesday I'll check it out. I'm hoping to buy one, or at least play a few.

There is a bore change, but at the moment I don't know. I'll measure a few with some of my special gauges.

This probably doesn't help at all... but one of those clarinet tech geniuses out there should make and personally fit ergonomically-correct register keys. I'd probably pay quite a bit to have one fitted to my clarinet.

Just saying.

Does the Tosca have an ergonomically correct register key?

Depends who plays it. I've tried a bunch of clarinets with the supposedly more ergonomic register key. I always end up preferring the basic shape (though some clarinets have an uncomfortable version of that).

It probably depends on the agility of your thumb. Some can cover the register hole with the thumb pointing upwards nearly parallel to the register key, some have their thumb perpendicular to the key, and others somewhere in between.

(I can't bend the first joint past the stretched position so I'm a "perpendicular" user and must roll the thumb sideways to operate the register key). Thus I like my Marigaux' register key that has a more sax-like protrusion to the side of the thumb hole.

You can make a prototype extension out of (don't laugh) plastic fingernails or PCL or Sugru to see if it suits you at all.

I have a Lyrique A clarinet with the "wrapped around the thumb ring" reg key. It is always in the way, because

I have a Buffet R13 with a conventional reg key.

The latter bit my thumb (pinched it between the reg key touch piece and the thumb ring) until I developed a callus that now just "squirts" out of the gap. It doesn't hurt any more.

Anyhow with the touch pieces in different places, things are made awkward.

I'm often tempted to take the Lyrique to the shop and saw off its wrap-around reg key.
