I knew they made clarinets, but I had no idea they made Bass Clarinets too, but apparently a seller says the instrument says Cannonball Musical Instruments Salt Lake City. I havent heard many good things about their clarinets, wonder what their bass clarinets are like?

It would seem to me that it's harder to get a bass right than it is to get a soprano right. If you haven't heard anything good about the sopranos, that, in itself, might tell you something.

These horns are assembled in the US; parts are made in China.
I guess they're "ok-ish," but they are not cheap either.
I'd stick with Selmer myself.

The Cannonball clarinets are made in China. Maybe assembled in USA like Paul Aviles wrote but the ones I've seen had a sticker on them "Made in China", or maybe it was just "China", I don't remember exactly. I can't say for sure, but their bass clarinet is probably the same or very similar to the other Chinese bass clarinet. I've tried several of those, sold directly by the Chinese companies, some were actual factories, some trading companies. I wrote about them in other threads recently so you can search. I don't know if the Cannonball is exactly the same but most likely it is, or at least very close.

From what I've seen of their saxophones (more prevalent in the US than the clarinets right now) these are definitely a cut above our much maligned
C larinet
S haped
O bjects
I assume it's China's attempt to come up in the world of instrument manufacturing. They are NOT there yet, however, if their economy is any indication, they may not take all that long to get there.
I seem to recall being amused by Yamaha's "Selmer copies" of the '70s.
I'm not laughing now. I'm buying.

Cannonball's saxophones are from Taiwan. Most of them are at least, maybe they have student models from China too, I don't know. Their clarinets are from China. But re the Chinese clarinets and especially saxophones, there are definitely many that are nothing like the CSOs at all. I happened to not like the Cannonball clarinets, but those sold under supposedly random names (i.e. made up by the importers) can be anything from bad to good. My opinion on those models changed from not recommending them to checking them since they can possibly be a good option.

Checking their website, and a popular search engine, I can't find any reference to a bass clarinet under the Cannonball name. I would be very wary of this unless you can get confirmation that they are producing basses. Try their website, for a contact and ask if it's real. There is a possibility there are a few pre-production, one-off, or discontinued model out in the world. The company should be able to confirm or deny if it's real. If it's not, they may be interested in knowing who is trying to use their name.

I'll contact them and see what they say. I'll post the answer when they reply.

The reply I got is interesting:
"Hello,
Thank you for your interest in Cannonball.
We don't manufacture bass clarinets although, we did look into it at one time. The only bass clarinet we made was a prototype and was not meant to be sold into the market. This was six years ago. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Thanks!
Best Regards,
Rachel Laukat"
Apparently the seller got ahold of the prototype somehow, falsely advertised, or was confused. Who knows.
