Hi there, on one of my Naxos CDs I have the Brahms op. 91 songs, which the instrumental part is normally played on viola, and my husband (a professional pianist/organist) wants to do at least the second song with the lead soprano at his church job for a recital. He doesn't mind doing it himself, but I thought I'd ask here first to see if anyone might have it.
If so, you can email it to me at: clariniano@hotmail.com. I take Finale, Sibelius, and PDF files. The last is preferred, however.

You don't need a transposed part. Just read the viola part as if it's in bass clef and it will come out perfectly.
Most editions include a violin part in treble clef. The music is slow enough to transpose without difficulty.
These are wonderful songs and go beautifully with clarinet.

Trying to sight transpose even short pieces are challenges for me (like orchestral excerpts and studies required to be done that way) and would take way more mental energy than I could tolerate which would affect my playing pretty badly and would much rather prefer to read the part off directly without having to think of too many things, especially given that we won't have much rehearsal time with the singer.
I'd rather keep it simple...

Hello Meri
I programmed the op. 91 contralto lieder on my chamber festival this summer.
In looking for a good singer to sing them I learned that few sopranos can sing the op. 91 lieder, as they lie in too low a tessitura.
Perhaps your soprano can sing that low but all the sopranos I approached said the songs were too low. In the end we did it with a fantastic mezzo-soprano.

Actually our lead soprano is a mezzo-soprano, and she's going into her third year as a student at the Glenn Gould School here where I live (which is if not the top, one of the very top schools for music in Canada) and I saw her perform it with a violist also from where she studies for her recital, but she's going to do a recital at the church my husband is music director at, and we like to keep the musicians to those we know directly.
