I just ordered the new Vandoren leather ligature from Woodwind & Brasswind. There was nothing in the box in terms of an instruction sheet describing the different inserts, etc. There was just the ligature, inserts and the leather cap. My Optimum had some info inside the box. I would think there would be something describing care of a leather ligature, what type of sound to expect from the different inserts, etc. Obviously, this was tried out by someone who didn't put everything back in the box. My experience with WWBW has not been very good. They don't seem to check to make sure everything is in the box before sending the item back out. I have tried clarinets that came with no info, no warranty card, no swab or polishing cloth, etc., and they were selling it as new. One Yamaha CSG had badly stained pads giving the impression that the horn had been played a lot. Made me wonder if the proper break-in procedure was even followed. Also, I had a few of the horns checked out by my repair guy and they were leaking badly on several of the keys. I don't think they check them out the way they claim.
BTW, did Buffet have a major price increase recently? The Buffet prices on WWBW seem to have taken a huge jump recently.
In reference to the WWBW website being worked on, I have noticed that most of the customer reviews have disappeared. I hope they are going to be put back because I find them helpful.
Sorry about the long post.

That's one of the disadvantages of buying by mail in general. I received a sax mouthpiece from them once that they said they didn't even carry.

From my experience, they don't really make sure everything is working on instruments, but they have a very good service. Did you try explaining them any of those problems? Although some of the clarinets I tried there had problems, when I had my barrel crack, and it was after the warrenty expired, they sent me a new barrel for free. Also, because I live so far away (about 15 hours by airplane) they agreed to refund me for repairs done here during the warrenty.
Imho the small problems with instruments are nothing considering their huge selection and excellent service. It was a very nice change comparing with the norm where I live - monopoly on brands, high prices, bad service, and problems with instruments.
