I've had some extensive dental work done recently, full porcelain crowns in the front upper/lower so now I am perfect Question, can my playing hurt my new smile? I figure if I can eat anything I want, then my mouthpiece can't do any damage.. Yes? First my Dentist restores my mouth and I'm playing my John Butler restored Selmer BT, gee what next the roof?

I am not a dentist but I worked along side one for years as his assistant.
My opinion on this is that you should be more concerned about damaging your mouthpiece with the porcelain on the crowns than damaging your crowns with the mouthpiece.
I have one porcelain veneer ( which is somewhat like a crown) on my upper right central tooth. Porcelain is harder than the material your teeth are made of so it can easily scratch, mar, or make permanent indentations where those teeth go on the mouthpiece. I use the bay or Runyun mpc. patches and that helps a lot. I have to change them frequently though. I also find that the tooth with the crown tends to slide around on the mpc. a little more than the other teeth do so again, the patches really help. Sometimes there's even a vibration that is annoying. I am working on NOT biting my mpc. at all and just using much more muscle strength to control what I used to use biting for. I use the thicker pads for this reason. It works for me.

Veneers have not affected any of my playing - not even flute. They improved my smile, and the playing has had no effect on my smile. (How could it?)

Hey Rebecca, Well that's good news, I'd rather replace my mouthpiece instead of my teeth! I will start using patches (again) with a now clearer understanding of the strength of Porcelain.. Lord using a Gregory Smith MP means this is going to start getting pretty expensive if I'm not careful
