Well I have started to notice surface cracks on my 30 year old buffet becoming more apparent,it appears they have been touched up in the past, the repair man who I purchased it from brushed them off lightly as surface cracks, indeed the bore looks remarkably well, and uncracked. So the question is how much should I worry that they will travel through, hate to think I got ripped off.

Kevin,
I don't know where in the country you're at, but where I am it's starting to get drier and I've got to get that humidifier repaired!
Surface checking is more apparent in drier weather; does your repairman stand by the instrument in case it does crack?
The chances of a 30 year old clarinet cracking aren't as great as would be a new one (IMO) _unless_ the clarinet's environmental conditions greatly changed. I wince everytime my oldest son goes to Japan in the winter with his clarinets ...
