Does anyone have any suggestions on how to play this interval smoothly without interrupting my air flow?
I'm practicing Kroepsch bk 1, ex #3 if you want to take a look....
Thanks!
Buddy

For intervals like that I normally use a VERY light tongue. I simply can't slur it. That's if I think what you're thinking. Thumg and Register key C to a throat tone G. I've had similar passages thrown at me with a slur over them . . . . G to a C
TR=123/xxx
to a
T=12x/xxx
A to a D in the similar registers. I can't slur them, but find a soft legato tongue really can't be noticed. Since it's such a huge jump, if you COULD slur it, it'd sound like a little "break" anyway because of the vast pitch difference.

Is that what you were asking? Just make it a soft touch of the tongue. Not attacking, just a gentle love tap of the reed.

I have tried the interval, Buddy, but I don't see how it can be played slurred since continuing air stream will hold the register key open, preventing the G from sounding.

It's definitely possible to slur these intervals. I'd practise the slur first from the bottom note up to the higher note. Once you have got used to the different air stream required for the different notes, and you can get a smooth legato upwards, then practise it from the higher note down.

Liquorice, how do you manage to go from the C down to open G with a continuous air flow keeping the register key open? What do you do to let it close? I presume Buddy is referring to the C above the stave?
