A very rare, circa 1920s Martel Freres Paris clarinet in Bb. Instrument has recently been repadded with leather pads and regulated. It plays like a dream!
Martel Freres had a workshop in Mantes beginning in 1893 and then moved to Paris where they continued to manufacture woodwinds until at least 1926 - some information states later, but this has not been confirmed.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Martel Freres name, here is a description of one that was for sale a while back in England: "This is the quintessential French clarinet; possibly the finest ever French makers were Martel Freres. Each instrument was completely hand made and undercut, this process alone took 2-3 days, until a perfectly even scale was achieved. Hawkes and Co. came to the surviving Martel brother after WW1 to help them design their own legendary Hawkes' Martels, as played by Reginald Kell, Charles Draper et. al. The playing characteristics are unique and exceptional: Perfect uninhibited open response, and excellent tuning make for a true "players clarinet" which is a physical delight to blow."

I've been playing another Martel I own for some time now and it's one of my favorite clarinets.

This clarinet is in very good condition. Please take into account that it is used and has the usual evidence with light scratches on the body, etc. - nothing major. The keywork is in excellent condition with little wear. There are no cracks or evidence of repairs. All pieces are marked Martel Freres Paris.
Instrument will be supplied with a modern case (not the vintage one in the photos which is for another clarinet I own - I just used it for the photos).

I am asked 1200 euros plus shipping but will entertain REASONABLE offers.
Questions gladly answered to the best of my ability. Thank you for looking.
