I used glissando as an example to disprove alexi's statement that:

The legato I'm talking about is the best imitation that we can do of singers. A lot of the time this is possible on a clarinet (without using portato). This pefect legato can only be achieved without any break in the sound, and the smoothest connection between notes. I have spent, and contnue to spend many, many hours working to achieve this legato. It seems to be paying off because sometimes players of other instruments come to me and say "Gee, I didn't know it was actually possible to play legato on a clarinet!"

You're right about the piano though- it is impossible to play legato on the piano. All pianists can do is create the best possible illusion of legato, which is what the best players do.
