I have had good luck sealing the tube by using super glue after I have shaped the tube. Using Wealt's technique, I shape the tube, using the rubber band wrap overnight. Then I take off the butt wire and the middle wife, open the tube, and spread super glue carefully on both the right and left edges of the tube and squeeze the tube back together. I let it dry for five minutes, and re-apply the wires. I suspect other forms of glue which do not dry as fast would work as well, because once the wires are reapplied, the edges of the tube will be in contact and the glue will have plenty of time to dry.
