i'm teaching a private lesson to a flute student who has an offset flute embouchure because she has a teardrop lip. the only problem with this is that she's getting a double embouchure effect. i don't know how to get her to close the other side of her lips togetherso that air is not escaping. any suggestions?

Hello Mandy,
Most of the time, from my experience, flute players who have the angel's teardrop do not have a great success for playing flute.
She's going to have to practice a lot to get the air going the way it needs to go. It just comes with time. My niece has an angel's teardrop and she plays just fine, intermediately. It just took her a little longer to get the air going.
I had an angel's teardrop and did something truly barbaric. I bit mine off!! I would NOT recommend that to anyone. I do regret that I did something so cosmetic to myself just to play flute.
Hope this helps a little,
Flutegirl

What is an angel's teardrop lip? I've never heard of it and when I looked it up in google, it said nothing about it.
