Yup. I'm definitely finding that my aperture is generally large and the times I feel good about my playing, my aperture is much smaller.

Thankfully my flute teacher is AWESOME! I mean, truly amazing. Symphony player and well-deserved of the spot.
I'll try out the "puh" suggestion. Thanks for all the kind words from everyone and I look forward to the journey (which BTW is very humbling and gives me a taste of what beginner students must feel when I ask them to try to do things that come more naturally to me on clarinet!)
