Kohlerts are pretty firmly rooted in beginner territory, although I suppose with some tweaking and work on the tone holes, a great bocal, and an even better player, it could be a good intermediate horn. They're very solid players, and unless you aspire to the concerto repertoire or an orchestral bassoon position, it should be a perfectly adequate bassoon for all your doubling needs. :-)
