Go to the the winners tab, and listen to the oboe and english horn players. Amazing for such young talents.

I thought I saw Izomov in the section during the Finale's encore.

Yes, they all played beautifully! Simon the english horn player is from Singapore and is only 18/19. He played in a masterclass for Dominik Wollenweber recently here. And Xiomara Mass was already playing unbelievably amazing the last time i heard her in Quebec 2008. Unbelievable talent. I would never have dreamt playing at that level at that age years ago. Although i do not know Emmanuel, he was of course just lovely to hear. And Izotov really shined in the encore, really enjoyed it! (i just discovered recently that many years ago that i actually had a 2 email correspondence with Izotov, i sent him an email saying that i really enjoyed his playing through his website and he was very quick and sincere in replying.) Small world!

Anyone know, did this year get dedicated to very young players?
Nothing wrong with that if thats what was advertised, but I heard several auditions superior to the 2nd and 3rd winners. Those from obvious pro players in several countries.
Or perhaps, it simply a popularity-vote thing like some of the reality shows, which I'd guess woupld give the younger, cuter applicants an edge.
The winners were good, and attractive for sure, but definitely not the best players attempting the efforts.
I'm not talking about raw talent or energy, just refinement of style and execution.
Just wondering...? Are there ajudication rules and standards posted anywhere?
