Hey,
Does anybody know where to find Richard Woodhams' recording of Strauss under Sawallisch? I've been looking for it everywhere and can't find it.
thanks

I think your best bet is to do the same thing I did. Basically, just check amazon like once a day until somebody puts a reasonably priced one of their, and then snatch it up as fast as you can! Got mine this way for . . . a little under $20.
It is an absolutely gorgeous recording, although rumor has it that Mr. Woodhams always wanted to rerecord it . . .

Do you know why it's so hard to find and so expensive when you can find it? Is it just because it's out of print or what?

What I gather from a pretty reliable source was that jrestes was right...Mr. Woodhams did not like how he played on that recording and ensured that it was taken off the market. I guess they never actually re-recorded it! It is a beautiful recording, I managed to get my hands on a copy. Who knows why he wanted it to be taken off the market...

The CD has long been out of print and there is a high demand for it, that's why it's hard to find. I had a copy and sold it on Amazon (for a handsome price). Personal I don't enjoy the performance, but I know many who do.
