I experimented on the DM for 2 months, with me using a DM oboe. The conclusion is, without the right gauge and shape, it is pure crap to say that you must use DM for DM bore. I make European scrape reeds, but it doesn't make much of a big difference. The aperture of these staples are pretty small, and with that i produced when other things were constant, reeds that didnt vibrate as well compared to my previously more open staples
(Loree AK, Pisoni, K Ge etc). I will continue to experiment with them, but i wouldnt suggest that you do. They are supposed to be made for the German market anyhow, and they make the reed more resistant and in a way, darker.
After reading Tony Allcock's reed making articles on DOUBLE REED NEWS 1993, Britain, i am even more convinced now that it is all a matter of flexibility and a strong control of variables to create your own 'average' that matters. So you don't have to continue using these DMs. If you do succeed in making a good one, try it on another oboe, you would surprised how bad it might be compared to your previous reeds on another oboe.
