Karen,
Speaking as a former clarinetist, I found that the way higher tones feel to you while playing the oboe is very different from how they feel to you while playing the clarinet. Anything above top-line G is going to make you wonder what in the world happened to your resonance, when you try those notes. They are (especially at first, with your oboe embouchure underdeveloped, as it by definition will be) not nice sounding notes, and your first inclination will be to try to force them, to make them bigger. But just like forcing anything, that only makes them more strident, not more resonant.
That bothered me for a long time. There are even messages from a few years back on this board of me complaining about my puny high notes.
You will learn pretty early on how to make them sound, but to make them sound good takes time and the knack for letting it happen on the breath, rather than biting and forcing.
I think that might be what oboeidaho is getting at.
