Theoretically, mandrels made by particular makers, ie Loree, Chudnow etc. are designed to accomodate their own brands of staple. This is not necessarily the case. It is always a good idea to buy staples with your mandrel "in hand" so that you can try them for fit right then and there.
I realize that is not always possible. I find that Chudnow staples are very consistent on his mandrels. I also use Steven's staples. I sent him my mandrel and he chose staples that fit it well. I have no experience with Loree staples except to know that I'm not particularly a fan of them.
I have found that on many staples the metal is getting thicker. I don't like that. The Stevens staples I recently ordered are well made and are made with slightly thinner walls. Good luck with your staple search. Good Staples are just as important as good cane, good gouge etc.!!
