If it's a round hole, I usually make it 1mm.
Problem with diamond holes is that they can vary, and if they're large then the top fingerplate will probably have to be adjusted so it's barely moving at all, but not closed down completely.
The amount of adjustment is relative to the size of the aperture, so a fingerplate with a small aperture will need to open more than one with a large aperture.
But as was said, the aperture can be altered by filling with beeswax and made to any size or shape (or depth) you like.
