Hey guys, lighten up, hang loose eh?
... AFTER having tried synth reeds myself (i asked & debated the same question here many moons ago and was likewise warned off), they're maybe "good for"
-- the curious who just casually want to try out an oboe
-- marching band with plastic oboe outdoors in noisy community parades
-- as a noise-maker on N.Y.E. or Hallowe'en when you just want to blow off steam, or play creepy synthetic music, or just have some goofy child-like fun anytime (in first, second or third childhood)
If you can dare to descend, get maybe medium, and buyer beware just like regular reeds, you can't blow them all right out of the box. They can be sterisol'd OK. Fibercane reeds can be filed down somewhat if they're not responsive enough for easy blowing. Other plastic reeds aren't adjustable. Search online for low clearance price.
P.S. they taste yucky and smell something like glue (not strong enough for a good sniff though) so it'll probably help plenty if you're of legal age to have a stiff drink first
