To me, that would effectively "end" the reed's life right there, because it makes it difficult to adjust later on. I think the reed has the purest, clearest sound when the tip is smooth and clipped straight across. (Done with a single-edge razor: this helps remove all bumps) To achieve this pure sound, there should be as little interference with vibration as possible. To that extent, the only thing that should really be stopping vibration is the definition on the sides of the reed, between tip and heart. If the end of the tip already has vibrations stopped, then the tone can never be pure. A reed like this might still have OK response and have a "dark" sound but, it will surely lack clarity.
If for some reason, clarity and purity of tone aren't desired, or even required, then by all means, do it...because hey, if it works for you (or her) then do it!
