 Re: Royals are the best

Nice and heavy can also mean arthritis/tendonitis in your hands or wrist...don't assume that's a good thing.

From a Canadian perspective, I can say that there are a lot of top players that don't play on Lorees. Chip Hamman (Principal in NACO, best paid orchestra in Canada) plays on a Greenline, Dick Dorsey (just retired from TSO principal) played on Buffets all his life, Jim Mason (principal KW Symphony) only plays Yamahas, prinipal in Saskatoon plays a Yamaha, and I don't know many of the other players. But the positions above are pretty much the top jobs in Canada (obviously there are many other great jobs), and they all don't plays Lorees. I also just won a job playing principal in the Windsor Symphony, and I play on a Yamaha.

I have tried Royales, and they certainly have nice qualities, but I have never found one that is particularly 'great'. They've all been 'nice' oboes, but none of them really stand out. I have found other oboes to have many more qualities that make them stand out as being particularly great.
