Oh! I really like Susan's MMO idea.
I have recently discovered the joys of Music Minus One with the oboe. I had "More Great Hymns" hanging around that I purchased to use for a church service on flute, but thought the music to be a bit too showy for church so I never used it. I just got the idea about playing it with the oboe one day and it was quite enjoyable playing along with that background track. Recordings force you to make use of your dynamic range and express in a way that you may not usually.
I liked it so much that yesterday I picked up a copy of "Play Klezmer" which was quite a hoot to play along with and also picked up "Master Solos Intermediate" which didn't have terribly good background tracks, but there was a great deal of studies and dialogue to prepare for actually playing pieces which I thought was a nice thought (like a brief double touging tutorial for the 32nds in Bellini's Larghetto, oi!).
Regards,
Stephen
