Depends on the amount of rehearsals I have in that day...but if I have the time, I like to have two practice sessions, 1 and a half to 2 hours each. If I have to do one session I typically do 2 to 2 and a half hours. When I practice I always take at least one 5-10 minute break to stretch, grab a drink, and generally loosen up. It definitely helps keep you sharp!
I practice whatever I have to work on at that point in time! In January-February I'm only practicing excerpts for auditions, before concerts I'm practicing concert rep, etc...but I always try to get in a study or two from the Barret or Ferling books. They are both great books, the Barret in particular is very comprehensive as it includes studies for every level of student.
Whenever I am working on technique, the most important thing by far is that you slow the passage down to the point where you can play it through absolutely perfectly, with no mistakes of any sort. Do this with a metronome. Other than that, practicing a hard passage in a different rhythm than notated really helps, like taking a passage of 16ths and doing them in a dotted 16th to 32nd note pattern (I hate trying to actually write out stuff like that!) or playing them swung.
Good luck with your practicing!
