My original case is pretty beat up, and while I bought a cheap case for around town that works well, it's not small. I need a small one similar to the original for putting in my backpack when I fly. I have found the Protec Micro case which appears to be just as small as my original Rigoutat case but I was wondering if anyone has tried it. It closes with zippers instead of latches and doubtless is made in "that country where everything is made now." Available on Amazon and at Forrest's, and way cheaper than replacing my original case with another Rigoutat case. Anybody?

I had a double Protec case and it was excellent, Now I have a Gator case for one oboe and it was cheap, is of great quality, and is small and light. I sent the oboe that is in it to a repairer over 2000 km away and he asked me where I got the case as was impressed by it. I would imagine the MicroCase is along the same lines, . If it is anything like the Protec double case, then it would be a worthwhile investment.

I would imagine that the ProTec case would be good. I have a few of them myself (Alto Sax, Oboe/English Horn Double--currently not in use, Bassoon) and haven't had any issues with them. The only reason I don't use the Ob/EH case is because I have a BAM case I prefer because it holds my tablet for my music better.
I do know several people that have the single clarinet case, and like it also. The other option would be another French model case, which is what I carry my oboe in when I only need it.

I have and like the Gator case but it is too big for flying when my backpack carryon has a LOT of other stuff in it. The micro case is MUCH smaller than the Gator and I am wondering if it will fit my Rigoutat. It says it fits "most" oboes and I have no idea what that means, and do not want to have to pay shipping back if it does not easily fit. So no one here has seen one, then. The Micro is only $75 or so, as opposed to another Rigoutat case which is closer to $300.

I was curious and checked the measurements. While the ProTec Micro case is small, it's still larger in 2 dimensions than a classic Loree or typical French case, so I have to believe that it would accommodate your Rigoutat.

I think the ProTec is quite large for travel.
I use the double case for Obobe/EH, and have one for my tenor sax. I like they are light and have multiple carry options, plus appear to well cradle the instrument.
But, I find them bulky. When I need travel with the oboe, clarinet and flute together, I use my old Loree case, which is quite thin, allowing me to carry all three instruments together.
If I only had the ProTec, I would have to carry that separately.

That's what I paid for it at Dillon Music. It fits my Rigoutat fine, and while not as compact as my beat-up original case, is much smaller than the Gator that I use when not traveling. I wanted blue but they were currently out of that color so I got silver, which is fine.

Can one of you who own the case provide external measurements?
I think the measurements posted earlier are the shipping box, not the case itself.
I also am looking for a case smaller than the stock Loree Royal case, which is larger than the traditional Loree pouches cases.
