 Oboe Teacher - Central NJ
Author: grifffinity

Hi All,

I've searched the forum, but do not see a teacher list for Oboe.

I am seeking an Oboe teacher in Central NJ (near or about the Freehold area) that is suitable for an advanced student. This student is a HS Senior interested in making her own reeds and advancing her technique. She is currently on the college audition circut, but her current teach lives over an hour away. She would like someone closer to where she lives to study with before she is off to college.

Any suggestions?

Thank you ~ P

The Internet is an amazing thing. Sitting here in Illinois, I can look up oboists in New Jersey.

Find some of these people, and ask them. Ask around.

Thanks for the snarkage.

I have been asking around and thought I would try here. God Forbid!

I've tried Rutgers U, but the teacher is not responsive.

This student already studies with someone in North NJ, but the travel issue is a concern. Asking around North Jersey has not produced any results for Central NJ.

To anyone who lives in Central Jersey and actually knows where Freehold is in relation to the state as a whole, I would appreciate any first hand knowledge of good/reliable teachers.

Thanks.

"Snarkage"??

[long pause]

Man, you sure got some SERIOUS issues there. [rolleyes]

What happened to, "Hey, Dutchy, thanks for looking some stuff up for me"? How about just saying, "Hey, that's not quite what I had in mind, but thanks anyway"?

How about spending a little time here on our FORUM with us before you start with the snotty comments, directed towards people you do not even know, about whom you know absolutely nothing?? This is a FORUM for DISCUSSION, not a "Dial A Teacher Service". We don't exist solely so that people can sign up and come in here and DEMAND that we tell them where they can find an oboe teacher convenient to their house, and if you thought that's what you were getting for your sign-up fee, you got another think coming.

...Oh, wait--you didn't pay anything to come in here and start insulting us. Silly me.

Well, hey, *I* made *MY* contribution to the recently concluded fund drive. Why don't YOU kick in a couple bucks, and then maybe you'll have the right to call ME "snarky" for taking 20 minutes out of my Sunday morning before church and ATTEMPTING to help you by looking up what are actually some solid leads on oboe teachers in the New Jersey area.

And pardon me I'm sure because I don't happen to be intimately familiar with the geography of the Garden State and gave you some leads to places that were unfortunately not right next door to where you live.

Gah.

FYI, there are people who come in here and ask, "Tell me how I can find an oboe teacher" who genuinely do not know that what they have to do is find some people who know other people who might know someone who plays the oboe, and ask THEM. They think, like you, that all they have to do is look up a teacher in a big directory somewhere. So to these people, my advice that I gave is perfect, and to the point. And if you think it sounded condescending or snarky, then that's YOUR issue, not mine.

And may I add that the next time you drop by an Internet message board, you try not to read emotions into the pixels, because 99% of the time, what you THOUGHT you heard was not what was said.

Sorry about the too-long quotes, Mark, I was on my way out the door and wasn't real focused on it.

Upon my first post I should contribute to a bullentin board? There is no fee requirement to post on this board - thus there is no reason for your abuse.

What is your problem? is the question.

If someone had posted the query about your state - of which I have no first hand knowledge, I would have read the thread and moved on.

The fact that there is a huge directory for clarinet teachers attached to that board made me think there may be a similar directory for Oboe teachers that I was unable to find in the search function.

On these boards people frequently ask about techs and stores in the area's which they live - what is the difference if I ask about a teacher close to the area? There is none - and word of mouth is the best advertisement.

People visit these boards for the information. They never return because of abusive posters such as yourself.

Hi. I'm the Webmaster.

griffinity - While you might think it obvious, not many people do the obvious. One teacher does not the Garden State make.

Being insulting to someone trying to help does not make friends. "Hi, thanks for letting me in your home and feeding me. You know, your decor is really horrid ..."
