Could anyone tell me why my B and my C sound the same ?
I cover the top hole on the top joint to produce a B and then I cover the top hole and the top hole on the lower joint and they basically sound alike.
I am a beginner. If you haven't figured that one yet.

Could be an adjustment issue. I recommend you see a tech to sort it out, oboe adjustments are tricky. Do you know if the sound you are getting is the b or the c? There is a linkage that should be lifting the small vent key below the b key.

Are both keys between fingers 1 and 2, and between fingers 2 and 3 opening when you press the first finger on the right hand?
If the top one is sticking, or if you have water or something in the tonehole, these two notes will sound the same.

I have my left index finger on the top B key and the right index finger on the top key on the lower joint. The other fingers are not doing anything. Is that what you were asking ?

I will give you something specific to look at.
Just below top hole, where your left index finger sits, is a much smaller key. This key is supposed to open when you press the right index finger, which activates the linkage to the top joint.
My guess is that this key is not opening, possibly because of a spring that has slipped from where it is supposed to be. It's also possible that the key is stuck down because some sticky stuff is on the pad. Try pressing on the adjustment screw to this small key with your finger to see if the key opens. If it does, then you should take it to a repair tech...it's an easy fix but requires some knowledge.
