 Decker Oboe

I am currently trying a rosewood Decker oboe. Wow, that oboe plays fantastic! There is no need for a double octave key, everything plays great from low to high and such a lovely sound. I'll be honest, I really was not aware of Ken Decker until somewhat recently. I guess he only made around 25 oboes or so, but they play great and I think he is more well known for his boxwood oboes. I'd really like to hear some input from others who are familiar with this oboe or have tried them. I haven't tried the boxwood oboes, just this rosewood, but if they are anything like this oboe, then they are definitely fantastic instruments!

Ken also does custom key work. He extended the RH1 key for me. Silver plated and everything - looks great. He also added the Philly D key.

I have a Decker boxwood made in 1990 and it is a wonderful instrument.
Do you still have the Decker rosewood oboe? I wondered how it would sound like.

Hi, I just saw this. I still have the rosewood Decker and love it! I guess it sounds similar to a C series Loree, but not quite as bright sounding and easier to play. It has a vibrant tone, it really resonates.

Hi, my boxwood Decker is #12 circa 1990. Decker serviced it in 2020 with few new plating and new keys. It is an amazing sounding instrument.
My daily use oboe is a F series Loree with a plastic top joint and a Covey bell. It's nice to leave it out all day with no worries or outdoor concerts.
I love to try the other Decker oboe but never have the opportunity. I will bring my Decker to the IDRS 2022.
King
