I would like to try a short scrape reed. However....given the extreme difficulty even in finding an American reed that will play without major fiddling in this climate, where would I possibly get a Euro scrape reed that would work in the desert with near zero humidity at 2500 feet? (I am starting to get success buying reeds made in a nearby city that is just as dry but slightly lower altitude, but of course they are American reeds.)

That being said. I prefer their sound. I still prefer the long scrapr though for enjoyability of blowing

I should not recommend you because usually buy a medium-hard reed, but you have a Rigoutat and the reed that works best for me with my Rigoutat was the Wiggins Reed.

Well, just for the heck of it, I ordered a Wiggins in medium soft from Howarth. Because of the altitude I need a softer reed than would work at sea level. I still expect it to be on the hard side for what I'm used to doing, but my curiosity has got the better of me.
