 Help with Legere oboe reed
Author: AAAClarinet

I just received a new Legere oboe reed. I had read that one complaint people had was that is was more resistant than they are used to. That seemed fine for me because I like a fair bit of resistance.. however, the reed I got is way too soft. The tip is very closed and the reed literally plays a half step flat.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I read that Legere only sometimes offers exchange for damaged reeds.

Contact Legere (or your shop) and ask.

I wouldn't say they are too resistant. Somewhere between an; M and a MH

If it is faulty stock.. Then they will replace.

check the body carefully for cracks, especially ones that would affect the tip opening. There is an issue getting the reed into and back out of the reed well, so be careful you don't split the reed when you do this. I would use saliva to lubricate the O-rings before inserting the reed.

Would this be a good reed for a beginner?

For a beginner.... I would get a Howarth academy Reed, maybe soft or medium soft (I never played a soft, I started on medium soft)

U want a reliable Reed, otherwise u blame yourself, when really it is the reeds fault!

Or a Jones Reed if u want an American scrape.
